What is IPL?

If you are concerned about how your complexion looks because of sun damage or dark spots, Lake Buena Vista Aesthetics can perform a skin analysis at our Orlando, FL office to see if you qualify for intense pulsed light therapy (IPL). A photofacial with IPL is a skin rejuvenation treatment for adults with hyperpigmentation issues on the face and neck. IPL may be a noninvasive procedure; however, it can be highly effective and produce amazing outcomes. Throughout treatment, we will send intense pulses of light energy that warm the skin to set off the natural healing process and boost the production of collagen. In time, you should begin to see a healthier complexion with an improved tone and fewer spots of pigmentation. For more information, contact our nonsurgical aesthetic center today.

IPL photofacials are well-known at Lake Buena Vista Aesthetics for their rejuvenating qualities. Some of the benefits that our Orlando, FL men and women gain from IPL photofacials often include:

  • Smoother skin tone and texture
  • Neutralizing pigmentation and dark spots
  • A refreshed and enhanced complexion
  • A relaxing, spa-like procedure that supports improved skin health

An IPL photofacial works the deeper layers of your skin to treat many complexion concerns (particularly brown lesions and sun spots) with little or no downtime. Candidates for IPL treatments at Lake Buena Vista Aesthetics may have several issues with their skin, including rosacea, sun damage, brown spots (hyperpigmentation), rough texture, visible pores, redness, freckles, age and sun spots, or broken capillaries. Our skilled aesthetic team will examine your skin to see if you qualify for an IPL photofacial during your private consultation.

How Does IPL Work?

A photofacial is done inside our Orlando, FL office in around 20 – 30 minutes. To prepare for your photofacial, we will clean and dry your skin before protecting your eyes with special shields. Your IPL treatment will be performed using a handheld wand that will pass over the skin while emitting light energy pulses. While most patients may feel some discomfort during the photofacial, it is generally tolerable. There is no recovery time needed with an IPL — you can leave our office right away, however, your complexion will be a little red and inflamed. This will go away naturally as the day continues and can be masked with makeup. Cream on the skin's surface can help decrease any irritation and speed healing, while anti-inflammatory medications can help decrease swelling. Over the course of several days, sun damage and other irregularities under the skin will come to the surface and start to flake off. It's critical to keep your skin protected with sunscreen as often as possible after a photofacial treatment and to not pick at your skin. While you should have visible results after the first session, your complexion will attain ideal results after multiple photofacial sessions. We recommend approximately 3 – 6 treatments done every four weeks at Lake Buena Vista Aesthetics.

There is no downtime needed with an IPL photofacial. You will leave your appointment with your complexion a little pink and swollen. This will subside naturally in about a day — it can be concealed with cosmetics if you prefer. Lake Buena Vista Aesthetics advises patients keep a specialized cream on the skin's surface to decrease irritation and promote healing. It also helps to take an anti-inflammatory medicine to help reduce swelling. For several days, the blemishes under the skin will come to the surface skin layers and then begin to flake off. It's critical to protect your skin with sunscreen at all times after a photofacial and to not pick at your skin. While you will see some visible results after your first session, your skin will attain optimal results after several photofacial sessions. Our team recommends most patients get 3 – 6 treatments performed about once a month at Lake Buena Vista Aesthetics.

I purchased a Groupon for 3 IPL treatments. I had never had this treatment before so I had no idea what to expect. I had my 3rd appointment today. Maria was extremely professional and took great care at each appointment to make sure I was comfortable with the procedure both before and after the treatments. If I decide to have more IPL in the future I would return LakeBuenaVista Aesthetics. It has been a very helpful treatment for my rosacea.

Excellent! The NP Nicole took great care of me. I had IPL done for my dark spots that had been there forever! She was very knowledgeable, conscientious with her recommendations of treatment and her bedside manner was top notch and comforting. Most importantly the treatment was virtually painless except mild burning sensation similar to a sunburn 30 minutes after the procedure. My spots worsened for 3 weeks before they virtually all fell off! I’m very content with results after just one treatment but I may go back for an additional treatment to get some of the more subtle spots but the improvement with the first is already so drastic. I am very satisfied with my results!

About Us
How much does an IPL photofacial cost?

Your complexion issues are unique, which means the cost of IPL treatments will vary based on your concerns. Lake Buena Vista Aesthetics offers specials on treatments like IPL photofacials often, and we take several payment methods. During your initial visit, we can estimate your cost and determine how many sessions are needed to match your goals.

How quick are the results from IPL?

Improvements can usually be seen following your session, but the best results are visible a month after all of your treatments are complete. It is normal for you to respond differently to each treatment. You should see gradual improvements in blotchiness, redness, sunspots, and age spots over time.

What are the possible side effects of IPL photofacials?

Most patients have mild side effects like temporary swelling, redness, crusting, blisters, or bruising. This should fade 2 – 3 days following your treatment. You will be sun sensitive and you should keep in mind that sun exposure can impact your results. Whenever you go outside, you should always wear sunscreen to protect your skin and avoid issues like redness and spots.

Do I need to prep for IPL?

Patients about to undergo an IPL treatment are usually asked to avoid sun exposure and self-tanners for at least 2 – 4 weeks before their procedure. You should discontinue the use of certain medications and topical creams, like Retin-A, several days before your procedure, and we may recommend taking pain relievers for 5 – 7 days before the appointment to help prevent bruising. You should also use sun protection (like a hat and sunscreen) since your skin will be extra sensitive.

Do I need multiple IPL photofacial sessions?

We recommend getting a series of IPL photofacials to provide gradual, natural-looking improvements to the appearance of your complexion. Every treatment helps to reduce surface irregularities and spots. Several sessions also produce longer-lasting improvements.
